Project Update: Veterans Memorial Park
Backfilling at Veterans Memorial Park is expected to begin Monday, Sept. 29, pending completion of soil prep at the source site.
Up to 60,000 tons of clean, approved soil will be brought in and compacted to safely backfill the old landfill, under the oversight of the California Regional Water Quality Control Board.
Work Hours: Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Duration: Sept. 29 – Dec. 31
Location: Veterans Memorial Park Baseball Field (6364 Zindell Ave.)
Truck traffic will follow strict routes, avoid residential streets and be managed by flagmen to ensure safety. No contractor vehicles will park on the street. Notices have been mailed to nearby residents (within 500 feet of the site).
Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to improve and restore this important community space.
The environmental work for this effort is funded through the Equitable Community Revitalization Grant (ECRG).

Se espera que el relleno en el Parque de los Veteranos comience el lunes, 29 de septiembre, una vez que se complete la preparación de tierra en el sitio de origen.
Se traerán y compactarán 60,000 toneladas de tierra limpia y aprobada para rellenar de manera segura, bajo la supervisión de la Junta Regional de Control de la Calidad del Agua de California.

Tráfico de los camiones seguirán rutas estrictas, evitaran calles residenciales y estarán manejadas por guardavías para garantizar la seguridad. Ningún vehículo de los contratistas se estacionará en la calle. Los avisos fueron enviados a residentes cercanos (dentro de 500 pies del sitio).

LA Metro’s contractor will perform soil sampling and testing to better understand ground conditions along the Eastside Transit Corridor Phase 2 project. Soil survey work will be performed. Metro’s contractor team plans to begin field activities during the week of July 28. The initial week will involve marking the boring locations and clearing them for underground utilities. This preparatory work will take place during the day, as it does not involve any drilling.
Beginning the week of August 4, Metro’s contractor will commence drilling operations on Washington Blvd., thru Saybrook Ave. and Garfield Ave, and along Smithway St, thru Flotilla St and Tubeway Ave. This work will be conducted at night, between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM, Monday through Friday. We anticipate that fieldwork will be completed by September 12. This may change based on the fieldwork progress.
