Frenchmens Creek
Project Overview
The Frenchmen's Creek project aims to remove flood-prone structures from the floodplain, thereby reducing flood risk and enhancing the natural function of the area. The initiative involves the acquisition and demolition of five repetitive loss properties to create approximately five acres of greenspace. This transformation is expected to restore native habitat for wildlife and vegetation, contributing to improved floodplain management.
Location
The project is situated in the Frenchmen's Creek area of Friendswood, Texas, specifically targeting five townhomes located along Clear Creek.
Collaboration
The project is a collaborative effort between the City of Friendswood and the Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District. An Interlocal Agreement between the two entities outlines their respective responsibilities, including the District's role in designing and constructing drainage improvements, and the City's involvement in property maintenance post-construction.
Funding
The project is funded through Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds, specifically targeting areas affected by repetitive flooding. This funding supports the acquisition, demolition, and environmental restoration efforts associated with the project..
