The intent of a community park and recreation plan is to create an inventory of existing facilities and resources, identify community recreation and open space needs, and set a plan of action for a five-year period. A current DNR-approved community park and recreation plan is required to be eligible for Land and Water Conservation Fund, Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund and waterways grants. For the Recreation Passport grant program, either an approved community park and recreation plan or approved capital improvement plan may be used for eligibility.

Site Plan Review and Operations Planning- The Parks and Recreation Commission met yesterday for a Study Session and held continued conversation about the draft Operations and Management Plan. That discussion will be picked up next at the Commission's regular meeting on August 14 at 5:30 PM in the Commission Chambers.

Disc Golf Course- We can't thank Aloft Disc Golf enough for their continued volunteer time as we prepare our first county-owned disc golf course. Today was a very exciting day as we have begun pouring the new tee pads! All work to design and prepare the course was done as a partnership between the county, Aloft, and the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy with respect to the conservation easement.

Last night the Grand Traverse County Parks and Recreation Commission held their regular monthly meeting and reviewed the draft Operations and Management Plan for Camp Greilick. This document holds important information about how the park will operate and provides greater detail as our team has thought through the opportunities and challenges at Greilick. If you scroll to the bottom of this page you will find a link to this document. The Parks and Recreation Commission will be holding a study session for further discussion within the next month. The date for this will be announced once the meeting space is confirmed. Information on meeting time, date, and location will be posted on the county's agenda page as well as on this page. This will be an open meeting and include public comment opportunities. As it is a study session, no formal action will be taken by the Commission at this meeting.

The Operations and Management Plan will then become part of the Site Plan Review Application that will be made to East Bay Township. This is tentatively planned for September but may change depending on submission deadlines.

Check out this sweet little one who greeted our team at the cabins yesterday!
